Privacy and your data
The name and contact address of the person responsible for this site have not been set up yet.
Who is responsible
The person who runs this course runs this dashboard and is responsible for your data. Write to (contact address not set up yet) with any question about it.
What we keep, and why
- Your name and email address, given to us by your course. We use them to sign you in and so your instructors know who you are.
- Which batch you are in and whether you are a student or an instructor.
- Your progress: the state of each activity (for example Submitted or Completed), the links you hand in, and notes your instructors write to you.
- Your learning diary entries.
- Which important announcements you have confirmed, and when.
- One-to-one sessions and project vivas arranged with you. Instructors may keep their own notes about sessions; these are not shown to students.
- A record of changes instructors make, such as adding you to a batch or changing the state of your work, so mistakes can be traced and put right.
- Sign-in records: when you signed in and last used the dashboard. When a sign-in link is asked for, we keep a scrambled (hashed) copy of the email address and of the network (IP) address it came from, to stop people flooding the form. A hashed address can still be matched to the address it came from, so we treat it as personal data and delete it within two days.
We do not use advertising or tracking. This site sets one cookie of its own, which keeps you signed in; it is removed when you sign out. Your data is not sold or shared with anyone outside the course.
Who can see it
- You can see your own progress, diary, links and sessions.
- Your batch's instructors can see them, so they can help you and review your work.
- The site's administrators can see everything, so they can run the site.
- Other students cannot see your progress, diary, links or one-to-one sessions.
Services we use
The site, its database and its sign-in emails run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare also runs the check on the sign-in page that tells people from automated programs, and keeps short-lived technical records of visits to the site, which may include your network address. Links you hand in point to your own work on services such as GitHub or Google Colab, which have their own rules.
How long we keep it
- Everything about you is kept until one year after your batch ends, then deleted. If you take part in a later batch, the clock starts again from the end of that batch.
- Records of sign-in link requests, and sign-in links themselves, are deleted within two days.
- Sign-in sessions are deleted once they can no longer be used: after 7 days without use, and after 30 days at most.
Seeing or deleting your data
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it at any time, also before your batch ends. Write to (contact address not set up yet) from the email address you sign in with. Deleting your data removes your account, progress, diary and sign-in records; you will no longer be able to open the course.
